Winter in Slovenia is not just a season; it is a complete transformation. The crowds vanish, the lakes freeze into mirrors, and the Julian Alps are blanketed in a layer of pristine white. It is a time of profound silence and soft, ethereal light.

Small Group. Expert Guidance. A Winter Wonderland.
On this 6-day Slovenia photography workshop, we embrace the elements to capture the fairytale side of this country. Imagine standing at the edge of Lake Bled as the church emerges from the morning frost, or capturing the minimal elegance of a lone tree against a white canvas.
This tour is designed to make the most of the short winter days. The sun stays low, giving us quality light for hours, not just minutes. From the emerald springs of Zelenci to the frozen waterfalls of the Soča Valley, we guide you to the perfect spots safely and comfortably.
Who is it for?
This workshop is for anyone who loves the silence and magic of winter landscapes. We keep our sessions comfortable with plenty of warm breaks, so whether you are an enthusiast or a pro, you can capture Slovenia’s fairytale landscapes without the stress (or the summer crowds).
Slovenia Photography Workshop Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & The Blue Hour at Lake Bled
Your winter photography workshop begins with a pickup from Ljubljana Airport and a transfer to our base near Lake Bled. We waste no time; after settling in, we head out for our first session at the lakeshore. Winter dusks are long and blue, offering the perfect backdrop for the illuminated island church. We finish with a hearty Slovenian dinner to warm up and discuss the week ahead.
Days 2–5: Chasing Winter Light
For the next four days, we base ourselves at the same comfortable, warm B&B at Lake Bled. This central location allows us to stay flexible and adapt our plans daily to the weather and snow conditions. We don’t follow a rigid script; we chase the light.
On clear, frosty mornings, we might head to the iconic hilltop churches of Jamnik and St. Thomas, capturing them rising above the valley mist against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. If the atmosphere is moody, we’ll venture to Lake Bohinj to photograph dramatic ice formations along the shore or the emerald Zelenci Springs, which offer a striking contrast against the white landscape.
We will also explore deep alpine valleys like Vrata or the areas around Kranjska Gora, where trees often turn into frozen sculptures covered in hoarfrost. We’ll hunt for massive frozen waterfalls, such as Peričnik, perfect for capturing the deep blues of glacial ice. Every evening, we return to the comfort of our base to warm up, review our images, and discuss post-processing techniques specifically for winter scenes.
Day 6: The Final Sunrise
We squeeze in one last sunrise shoot—perhaps revisiting a favorite spot or trying a new angle at Lake Bled. After a final breakfast and farewells, we transfer you back to Ljubljana Airport, leaving you with memory cards full of winter magic.

Chasing Light, Not Schedules
Landscape photography requires agility. We keep our itinerary flexible to ensure we are always in the best location for the specific weather conditions. If the fog is lingering in the valley, we stay. If a storm is clearing over the mountains, we move.
What to Expect Each Day:
- Education: We use downtime and bad weather intervals for image critiques and post-processing sessions, ensuring you leave with not just great photos, but better skills..
- Sunrise: We start in the dark. We aim to be on location for the blue hour and the first light of day.
- Recharge: After the morning shoot, we return for a well-earned breakfast and a few hours of rest to recharge.
- Daytime: We utilize the midday hours for travel, scouting, or capturing details in the forests where the light is more forgiving.
- Sunset: We end every day on location, capturing the golden hour and staying until the last color fades from the sky.
- Community: Evenings are for dinner, wine, and connecting with fellow photographers.
Activity level
We keep our physical exertion manageable, but winter adds a layer of challenge. Expect short hikes (20-40 mins) on snowy or icy trails to reach the best viewpoints. Walking in snow requires stability and a moderate fitness level. If you are comfortable walking in winter boots on uneven ground, you will be fine.
What’s Included in Your Adventure
Everything is taken care of. We believe that a workshop should be stress-free. You focus on the images; we handle the logistics. This tour is fully all-inclusive:

Meet Your Guide

Luka Esenko
Winter strips the landscape down to the essentials. No summer haze, no crowds, just clean lines and soft light all day long. It’s physically harder, sure, but that means we get the locations to ourselves. The results are always worth the cold.

Dan Briški
I live for these conditions. The snow transforms the Julian Alps into something completely different—more dramatic, more wild. The sun stays low, so we have quality light all day, not just at sunrise. It’s the best time to be in the mountains.
