This 7-day North Macedonia photography tour is more than just a landscape workshop; it is a cultural immersion. We blend travel photography with gastronomy, exploring a land that mass tourism has largely overlooked.

You will photograph shepherds in the golden hour, capture the intricate frescoes of Byzantine churches, and—most importantly—experience the legendary Macedonian hospitality. North Macedonia Photography Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & The Wine Roads
Your Macedonia photography tour begins at Skopje Airport (SKP). We immediately head south into the sun-drenched Tikveš wine region. This is the heart of Macedonian viticulture. We stop to capture the rolling vineyards and century-old winemaking traditions before arriving in Bitola. We end the day exploring the Ottoman-era architecture of the old town and enjoying our first taste of Macedonian cuisine—a feast of grilled meats, salads, and local peppers.
Day 2: The Timeless Mariovo Region
We start with the vibrant colors of the Bitola farmers’ market—a perfect spot for candid street photography. Then, we travel into the Mariovo region, an area so remote it feels like stepping back in time. We explore “forgotten” stone villages where life has remained unchanged for generations. We photograph shepherds with their flocks, stone bridges, and the rugged, golden landscapes. Lunch is home-cooked in the heart of the village, offering a true taste of rural life.
Day 3: The Road to Ohrid
We leave Bitola for the legendary Lake Ohrid. En route, we stop at the ancient city of Heraclea Lyncestis to photograph its famous mosaics. Upon reaching Ohrid, we wander the cobblestone streets of this UNESCO World Heritage city. The highlight is sunset at the Church of St. John at Kaneo. Perched on a cliff overlooking the lake, it is one of the most iconic and photogenic spots in the Balkans. We shoot the blue hour here before a traditional dinner by the water.
Day 4: Village Life & The Spirit of Rakia
Morning is for relaxing and capturing the serene lake shore. In the afternoon, we drive up to Kuratica, a mountain village where traditions come alive. We are guests of a local family who show us their way of life—from baking bread to distilling rakia (the potent local grape brandy). This is an exclusive opportunity to document authentic cultural practices in an intimate setting.
Day 5: Monasteries & Mysteries
We explore the eastern shores of the lake, visiting the stunning St. Naum Monastery. With its peacocks roaming the grounds and views into Albania, it’s a photographer’s dream. We also take rowboats onto the crystal-clear springs that feed the lake. The evening is a celebration of Macedonian culture with live folk music and dancing—a vibrant, colorful subject for low-light photography.
Day 6: The Bigorski Masterpiece & Painted Mosque
We travel north to the Jovan Bigorski Monastery, hidden deep in the canyon of the Radika River. This complex is famous for its intricate wood carvings and spiritual atmosphere. If our timing aligns, we may witness religious processions or rituals. Later, we visit the Painted Mosque in Tetovo, a unique masterpiece of Ottoman art covered in bright floral decorations. We arrive in Skopje in the evening for a final farewell dinner.
Day 7: The Stone Bridge & Departure
We spend our final morning exploring the center of Skopje, capturing the contrast between the historic Stone Bridge, the Old Bazaar, and the modern monuments. We then transfer you to the airport, or you can join our extension into Serbia.
Activity level
This is a relaxing tour. The walking is mostly easy—strolling through towns, villages, and monastery grounds. There are some cobblestones and uneven paths in the old towns, and a few stairs to reach viewpoints like Kaneo, but no strenuous hiking is required.
