Gorilla and chimp tracking require walking in the rainforest, sometimes on uneven terrain. While we aim for shorter treks, basic fitness is needed, along with sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection, rain-resistant gear, and breathable clothing.

Gorillas, birdlife, and epic wildlife—capture Uganda’s wild beauty on this unforgettable photo adventure!
Day 1:
Arrival in Uganda
We arrive at Entebbe International Airport and transfer to our hotel. In the afternoon, we visit the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, a great spot to photograph monkeys, birds, and lush flora. Alternatively, we can visit the Mabamba Swamps to search for the shoebill. In the evening, we have a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2:
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
After breakfast, we drive through Kampala’s suburbs to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we take a safari walk to photograph rhinos in their natural environment. We have dinner and stay overnight at Ziwa Rhino Lodge.
Day 3:
Murchison Falls National Park
At sunrise, we take canoes to search for the shoebill stork. After this experience, we return to our lodge for breakfast and then drive to Murchison Falls National Park. We stop to hike to the top of the falls for views of the Nile. After checking into our lodge, we go on an afternoon game drive, looking for giraffes, lions, elephants, and other wildlife.
Day 4:
Murchison Falls National Park
We start the day with an early morning game drive to spot wildlife such as leopards, hartebeests, and oribis. We also visit a hippo pool. Murchison Falls is home to many bird species, including bee-eaters and hornbills. In the afternoon, we take a private boat cruise to the base of the falls, photographing the cascade and animals along the river. In the evening, we go on another game drive.
Day 5:
Drive to Kibale Forest
Today, we take a scenic drive to Kibale Forest, known for its chimpanzee conservation programs. Along the way, we pass Lake Albert and small villages, stopping for photos when possible. We check into our lodge in the late afternoon.
Day 6:
Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Tracking
After breakfast, we go chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest. We spend the morning following and photographing these primates. The forest trails are flat and easy to walk. After lunch, we drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving in time for a sunset photography session.
Day 7:
Queen Elizabeth National Park
We spend the day exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park, starting with an early morning game drive. The park is home to elephants, tree-climbing lions, and diverse bird species. We may visit the saline lakes to photograph flamingos. In the afternoon, we take a private boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel to photograph buffalo, elephants, hippos, and birds.
Day 8:
Ishasha & School Visit
We travel towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, stopping first in Ishasha to look for tree-climbing lions. After photographing these unique animals, we continue to Bwindi, making a stop at a local primary school to meet teachers and students and learn about daily life in Uganda.
DayS 9-10:
Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi
Over two days in Bwindi, we embark on two exclusive gorilla tracking experiences, each offering a chance to observe a different gorilla family. On both days, after a morning briefing, we trek through the rainforest and spend an unforgettable hour with these magnificent primates, capturing their interactions and behaviors. This extended experience allows for deeper appreciation and unique photographic opportunities. After the treks, we relax at the lodge or explore optional activities like community visits or nature walks.
Day 11:
Entebbe
After breakfast, we take a domestic flight back to Entebbe. Upon arrival, we have the option to visit the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre. In the evening, we enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Departure from Uganda
After breakfast, we transfer to Entebbe International Airport for our departing flights, marking the end of our photography tour in Uganda.

What to Bring
For the best photography experience, we recommend bringing a capable mirrorless or DSLR camera along with a backup camera in case of unexpected issues. A long telephoto lens (100-400mm or 200-600mm) is essential for wildlife, while a normal and wide-angle zoom lens will help capture landscapes and environmental shots. If you enjoy macro photography, consider a macro lens or extension tubes. A teleconverter can be useful if using a shorter telephoto lens. A beanbag will help stabilize your camera for vehicle-based photography, and a light travel tripod is optional for landscapes and night shots. Pack a comfortable backpack with quick access to your gear, along with spare batteries and memory cards. Binoculars are also useful for spotting distant wildlife.
For clothing, bring comfortable travel attire in safari-friendly colors (earthy tones), along with wind and rain protection. A wide-brim sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential for protection against the sun. A small travel pack of medicine (including any personal prescriptions and basic first aid supplies) is recommended.
As part of our visit to a local school, we encourage bringing notebooks and pens as a donation for students. These will be handed over to teachers to ensure fair distribution.
Uganda uses Type G electrical plugs, the same as the United Kingdom. The standard voltage is 240V, and the frequency is 50Hz. Travelers from countries with different plug types (such as the US or most of Europe) will need a plug adapter, and those with devices that do not support 240V may also require a voltage converter.

Uganda is a safe and welcoming destination, especially in the national parks and reserves featured in this itinerary. With experienced local guides and carefully selected accommodations, you can focus on photographing wildlife and exploring diverse landscapes with peace of mind. While basic precautions are recommended—such as securing valuables in cities and following your guide’s instructions during safaris and gorilla trekking—Uganda remains a secure and rewarding destination. We also highly recommend purchasing travel insurance from your local provider to cover unexpected situations, including medical emergencies, trip cancellations, or lost belongings. Proper health preparations, like yellow fever vaccination and malaria prevention, are advised, and road travel is handled by professional drivers to ensure a smooth experience.
