Join us on this incredible winter in Slovenia photography workshop as we explore breathtaking alpine scenes around Slovenia. Using Lake Bled and the Triglav National Park as our base, we’ll get you to all the best spots to explore and capture snowy mountain peaks, turquoise rivers, frozen waterfalls, glacial lakes and frosted hilltop churches. At this time of year, the light is good all day; sunrises come later and sunsets earlier so we aim to capture both every day.
One of the exciting aspects of this workshop is the challenge posed by the weather, which can be changeable and means that we could be photographing in bright, clear conditions or battling snow blizzards. We’ll focus on camera manipulation adapted to winter conditions and will keep a flexible itinerary to capture the best the weather brings us. You’ll be able to try your hand at creative compositions using tripods and long exposure techniques. If the skies are clear we’ll also try some star trail photography from a mountain plateau. During the winter evenings we’ll retreat to our warm and comfortable accommodation to review our shoot and discuss post processing.

WEATHER AND WHAT TO BRING
January and February are usually the coldest months in Slovenia and Julian Alps and we’ve chosen this period for good reason. Expect snow in the valleys, frozen lakes if temperatures have been low enough,or mysteriously misty mornings if not. Even if there is no snowfall, the morning frost on the ground and trees creates stunning effects. We will sometimes drive to higher altitudes to capture winter scenes if there’s no snow lower in the valleys. Temperatures can easily be -15℃ in the mornings and sometimes only rising to 0℃ in the daytime.
You will need warm, waterproof boots that go above your ankles (big enough for two layers of socks), warm gloves, base layers (layers work better than one heavy winter coat), a warm hat and hand warmers are a good idea. Shoe crampons or Yaktrax (which can be bought in Slovenia) are recommended.
