Capture a magical mixture of European and Near Eastern culture in Bosnia

Sarajevo is a photographer's paradise. The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina offers diverse and unique photographic opportunities and so much more - friendly people, fascinating history and of course excellent food!

Join us on this 4-day photography workshop, led by our pro photographer, who knows the city intimately. We will cover different fields of photography, such as architecture, people, cityscapes and night photography. Photographic highlights include the old Turkish quarter, Bascarsija, majestic mosques (some of them built by Turkish Sultans 500 years ago and some by Saudi Arabian sheikhs just 10 years ago), remnants of the Yugoslavia war, hilltop sunrises with sweeping city views as well as traditional village life in the nearby hills.

A visit to Sarajevo will also be a cultural experience. We will learn about Bosnian culture and how four religions (Muslim, Catholic, Orthodox and Jewish) coexisted for four centuries until the wars of 20th century.

After arrival, transfer to hotel for check in. We begin our tour with a short ‘blue hour’ photography session in the old Turkish quarter, Bascarsija, exploring its magnificent old mosques, bazaars and churches. This is followed by dinner and evening introductory talk on photographing Sarajevo and tour details.

Day 4

Sarajevo, the only oriental city in Europe, has been a meeting point for east and west throughout history, which has enriched the place with diverse architecture, art and cuisine and gives the city its own special atmosphere. We’ll have a full day to explore Sarajevo’s charming street life, enjoying countless photo opportunities. Dinner followed by a review of the day’s shoot.

Weather permitting we’ll venture out of Sarajevo into the surrounding hills and villages offering stunning vantage points, particularly for sunrise or late afternoon shots, or we will continue exploring Sarajevo focusing on improving our travel photography and composition. Dinner plus an early evening photography assignment and review.

Breakfast at the hotel. If time allows, a final photography shoot in the old town before transfers to the airport.

Included: Accommodation in traditional guest house (3 nights) double/twin rooms sharing (singles available upon request), all meals, airport transfers and all transportation during the workshop, expert guiding, photography tuition, entrance fees and all local taxes.

MORE INFORMATION

This tour is run in conjunction with SlovenianBears.com. The bear photo hides are situated in carefully selected locations across the forests of the Notranjska Region. We do our best to prepare good spots to photograph wild animals but participants must be aware that animal activity can be weather dependent and is beyond our control. Whilst we cannot guarantee bear sightings, the bear hides are located in the central bear habitat, where the local population is extremely dense, to give us our best chance of photographing the bears.

Difficulty level

We will spend a decent amount of time walking and rowing in the cave. On a full day workshop we can stay in the cave 4-6 hours. There is uneven terrain in the cave and we need to be very careful with our step not to damage fragile environment.
